The Gallopalooza project continues!! This year the Gallopalooza organizers have decided to "down scale" the project and instead of life sized horses, this year's equines are 15" tall. The base horse was sculpted by our hobby's very own D'Arry Jone Frank!!
I was selected as one of the artists to complete not one, but THREE of this year's tabletop sized Gallopalooza horses.
These horses will showcase the week of the Kentucky Derby and will be auctioned off at the various balls and celebrations held through Derby week. My three horses will be: generic racehorse (Horse 1), a portrait model of the 2005 Kentucky Derby winner, and my last horse will be auctioned off "nekid" and the buyer can have the choice of which famous racehorse they would like it to be!
Here are the outcomes......
HORSE #1 "The King of Sports"
This horse was designed to be a generic racehorse - your typical dapple bay, yet still flashy. "The King of Sports" attended the 2005 Mint Jubilee, a prestigous black tie Kentucky Derby celebration. Celebrities such as Ashley Judd, Rick Dees, Tori Spelling, and others were in attendance...as well as some of the racing industry's most famous jockeys. The King is now adored with signatures from the following jocks:
Jean Cruguet, Steve Cauthen, Ron Turcotte, Pat Day, Kent Desormeaux, Angel Cordero Jr., Laffit Pincay, Rafael Bejarano, Edgar Prado, Javier Castellano, Jeff Johnstone, Mike Manganello, Robby Alvarado, Dean Butler, Craig Perret, Earlie Fires, John Velasquez, Rafael Mojica, and Jorge Chavez.
being signed by the famous Ron Turcott, Secretariat's jockey
...a glimpse of the many signatures...
HORSE #2 "Giacomo - Kentucky Derby Winner 2005"
This horse was designated to a portrait model of the 2005 Kentucky Derby - so I had a short timeframe to get this horse done. And to the excitement of the Moss', owners, Giacomo won the 2005 Kentucky Derby! This portrait of Giacomo features a handcrafted bridle, complete with nose roll and a garland of derby roses!
HORSE #3 "Swaps"
This horse was designated to a portrait model of the auction winner's racehorse of choice. The winning bidder has chosen Swaps, a world famous champion of the past! Keep an eye on this page - I'll be posting pictures of him soon!
