"The Handsome Devil"
This is a large traditional scale resin that was released by D'Arry Jone Frank. "The Handsome Devil" is a hollow cast mold, making him easy to work with! This horse was a release of only 25 pieces + 5 Artist Proofs (typically D'Arry customizes the Artist Proofs). D'Arry rarely has anyone other than herself paint her resin releases, but this one she did something a bit different. She offered 1 piece to be painted by selected other artists (Carolyn Boydston, Ed Gonzales, Cindy Williams, and myself). So...here is mine!
He was painted in using pastels, acrylics, and hours of hand detailing! First he was done to a rich dark dappled bay with lighter tones to his barrel and underside. And then I did something I don't do...and I'm offering up my first blanket Appaloosa! This horse just screams Sporthorse to me and I love Appys. He has an extended blanket with lacey edges and lots 'o' spots! Spots have halo'd edges. He has four socks and a blaze as well, all with appropriate mapping. He even has ermon spots and corresponding hoof striping as well done in pastels. Painted on shoes. He is sealed in layers of matte finish for those who show performance. Eyes, hooves, and nostrils all glossed.
